Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security to hold an inquiry into Telecommunications and other Legislation Amendment Bill 2016

Yet another inquiry into telecoms legislation.  This time it the reivew is into the Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2016.   The announcement provides:

On 9 November 2016, the Attorney-General, Senator the Hon George Brandis QC, asked the Committee to inquire into the Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2016.

The Bill, which was introduced to Parliament on 9 November 2016, amends the Telecommunications Act 1997 to introduce a regulatory framework that is intended to better manage national security risks of unauthorised access to, and interference with, telecommunications networks and facilities.

The Committee is currently accepting submissions. Anyone wishing to provide a submission to the inquiry should provide early notification of their intention to submit by email to pjcis@aph.gov.au.

Submissions are due 3 February 2017.

The Committee intends to present its report in April 2017.
