Privacy Commissioner issues new video, this time about security cameras from neighbours
August 14, 2014 |
In a continuing series the Privacy Commissioner has, today, released a video titled What can I do about my neighbour’s security camera?
It is found at here:

The transcript provides:
What can I do about my neighbour’s security camera?
If your neighbour has a surveillance camera pointed at your house and you are worried about your privacy, the best thing to do is talk to your neighbour about it.
If this doesn’t work you could approach your local community justice or neighbourhood mediation centre for help resolving the issue.
Surveillance cameras operated by individuals are not covered by the Privacy Act, but they may be covered by State or Territory law, and the police may be able to help you with very serious matters.
It is hard to argue with this commentary, as far as it goes. The real problem is that it goes not at all far enough. In short it is inadequate. No mention of possible action involving nuisance or misuse of personal information.
